Gallerie dell’Accademia - Pre-19th Century Venice Art Gallery
On leaving the jetty next to Palazzo Loredan, overlooking the Grand Canal and Palazzo Malipiero:.
Turn back the way you came, taking the second left, Calle Della Toletta.
Cross the Ponte Della Toletta and continue ahead on Calle Della Toletta.
Turn left at the end of the road on to Sacca della Toletta.
Cross the Ponte de la Maravegie and turn left, then immediately right.
You are now at the Gallerie dell’Accademia, one of the most famous art galleries in the world.
Founded in 1750 as the Accademia di Belle Arti di Venezia, it now houses the most important collection of Venetian painting in the world, spread over 37 rooms within several historic buildings.
While there are sadly no paintings by Giacomo’s brothers, Francesco Giuseppe Casanova and Giovanni Battista Casanova, nor any of Canaletto’s famous views of Venice, you will find masterpieces such as The Tempest by Giorgione, The Pietà by Titian, Cycle of St. Ursula by Carpaccio and The Feast in the House of Levi by Veronese among many others. Drawn on fragile paper which is sensitive to light, Leonardo da Vinci's Vitruvian Man is also displayed very rarely.
From here, simply cross the Ponte dell'Accademia to return to the start of the walk.
